(Part 2 of 4)

(01:17:19)

July 14, 2021

DESCRIPTION:

Ready to “change your mind” about relationships? In episode two of our Change Your Mind mini-series, we are joined by leading expert on the brain and performance, Teri Mahaney, PhD.  We explore the role our theta brain stories and messages play in our relationships from casual to friendship and familial to romantic. Hear how you can overwrite your beta brain stories by changing your theta mind messages while you sleep. Dr. Mahaney’s Change Your Mind (SuperSleep) program is designed to help people clear the non-productive stories that have invaded their minds by rewriting the script when the brain is in a theta sleep state. (This four-part series covers: The Theta Brain, Relationships, Empowerment/Success and Spirituality.)

(Dr. Teri on Creating a Healthy Relationship.)

EPISODE SUMMARY:

Relationships can be challenging. However, they can also be fulfilling and rewarding. Sometimes, regardless of our best efforts, bridging the gap between the two can feel impossible. On today’s episode Dr. Teri reminds us that we are the key to achieving relational health. According to her, in order to have a solid, loving relationship with another, you must have one with yourself first.

Loving yourself is the first vital step to not only healthy relations, but to living a vibrant life. Sometimes truly loving and accepting ourselves can be difficult. We all have a lifetime of stories we tell ourselves that we believe to be true. And we generally do not question their origin. Far too often the origin of these stories are deeply buried in our unconscious mind. Unfortunately, whether true or not, they can have an impact on our behavior.

Many times, the outdated, or simply false stories we tell ourselves are so destructive that they keep us from the living a vibrant life.  Thoughts such as “I’m not enough”, “Why do I always do this?”, “Here I go again”, or “I don’t deserve to be happy” can result in behaviors that make it more difficult to achieve success or happiness. Ruminating over negative self-talk can also result in self-denigration and self-flagellation. These thoughts, doused in negative language, can stir feelings of despair, hopelessness, and depression. Worse, once they are in our theta brain, they can prevent other more positive thoughts from getting in.

The more we repeat these stories, the more we lock them in, making it (seemingly) harder for us to break free. Fortunately, there are things you can do to reset your mind. Dr. Teri feels her SuperSleep method is one of the fastest ways to do so.

Today, Dr. Teri shares her experiences with clients who completed the Relationships Series on her Change Your Mind/SuperSleep Program. Listen in as we chat about a variety of relationships and hear research and successful case studies. Dr. Teri recalls stories of how both men and women who felt that they couldn’t create long, lasting, mutually beneficial relationships in their lives found relational success using the Change Your Mind/SuperSleep process.
