Love is everywhere! That’s the message our guest, Janet Grace brought is bringing us this week. After a near-death motorcycle accident, that resulted in myriad of things including: a cracked spine, a collapsed lung, and many, many facial surgeries. The doctors and surgeons told her three things. She would never walk again. She would never have children. And they informed her that they had done the best they could do with her face and only time would tell. But, 20-year-old Janet Grace had a dream, a vision that she always kept front and center. She was determined to be a mother. She was going to be active, and she would not let her circumstances in any way, dissuade her. Her road to recovery took her on a discovery of self, the grace of God, and the power that comes from loving more, and fearing less.
(Janet on loving your way through life’s pain.)
We have all heard “triumph over tragedy” stories. While they can shock, amaze and inspire, how often do we connect the dots to our own lives? Most of us don’t have “rags to riches” histories or personal cheating-death tales. Yet, for all of us, life’s struggles can be very, very real.
It is human nature to desire happiness and avoid suffering. Our pursuit of happiness is sometimes based on a misguided understanding of what leads to it. We try to find it by doing things that we enjoy, accumulating wealth and objects that we believe will bring us pleasure. Not surprisingly, this pursuit of happiness has left many feeling empty and disappointed. The truth is that worldly pursuits often lead us away from what will make us truly happy in the long-term. The great news is that it is possible for each of us to pursue a life full of love and gratitude – a life filled with meaning and purpose – even amid trying circumstances.
Many of us simply keep on pushing through, some of us ignore our problems. Without intention most challenges resolve themselves—for better or worse. Fewer of us live with such powerful, or loving, intention as today’s guest.
From our first meeting with Love Your Life Coach Janet Grace until the mic drop, we were enthralled. She has her own triumphant “against all odds” story. We also suspect she was a pretty amazing human pre-tragedy. It’s not often you meet someone who just oozes love…and not in a sappy way. She’s strong, resilient, funny, warm and enviably (and comfortably) transparent. It was a joy to have such a heartwarming, yet practical and actionable conversation about a topic that can often have us floating off into a space that feels more fantastical and, sometimes, romantically disconnected from the real world.
Love is an emotion of strong affection and personal attachment. It is also a virtue representing all of human kindness, compassion, and affection. It could be described as the unselfish loyal and benevolent concern for another.
Without question, at least from our perspective, love is a potent emotion that can truly move mountains. Since love can be a feeling, an action, a choice, or a state of being, it is a complex topic that can spark endless conversation. Regardless of our diverse positions, science has indicated that its effects are tangible. People who love more tend to have better physical health, stronger relationships, and higher self-worth. In addition to the positive effects love has on us as individuals, it can also make our world a much better place too.
And when you add gratitude to the mix, the love-effect is magnified! Gratitude has been studied extensively in psychology circles and is an emotional response to giving or receiving. mental health, relationships, and overall well-being.
Tune in for a beautiful and practical conversation that explores the power of love and gratitude, and their ability to transform our mindset and assistance in manifesting our deepest desires.
